A new Town Mayor for Broadstairs and St Peter’s Town Council


At the Annual meeting of 16 May 2022 Cllr Roy Dexter was elected chairman of the Council for the 2022-2023 civic year. Cllr Dexter announced his intention to use the term Town Mayor and declared his Mayoress to be Brenda Rogers.

At the same meeting Councillor Bob Bayford was appointed vice chairman of the council.

“It is an honour and a pleasure to be appointed Mayor of Broadstairs and St Peter’s,” said Cllr Dexter. “Brenda and I are looking forward to promoting and representing the town and raising money for our chosen charities Pilgrim’s Hospice and the RSPCA.”

The Chaplain for this Civic Year is the Rev. Philip Musindi, Vicar of St Andrew’s, Reading Street. 


About The Mayor - Cllr Roy Dexter 

The Mayor is a chartered electrical engineer with a masters in business administration and spent many years working in the mechanical, power generation and petrochemical industries; eventually becoming a local businessman.

He has over twenty years experience working in local government as an officer and councillor. In 1999 he was appointed the Broadstairs and St Peter’s Town Clerk and, after his retirement, became a candidate in the local elections. In May 2015 he was elected as a ward councillor, representing St Peter’s, at both the Town and District Councils and currently sits on numerous committees, sub committees and boards.

His past voluntary work includes a six year term as a Governor of the East Kent Hospitals Trust, Vice Chairman of the East Kent ‘Independent Police Advisory Group’, a trustee of CT10 Parochial Charities and sat on the board of ‘Thanet Leisure Force’.

The Mayor will continue to support the electorate, promote and represent our Town, and seek to maintain and improve the well being of our community. His primary charities will be The Pilgrims Hospice and the Thanet Branch of the RSPCA.

The Annual Meeting 2022 

On behalf of the Town Council Cllr Dexter extended his thanks to the outgoing Mayor, Cllr Paul Moore and Mayoress Cllr Wendy Moore for their hard work during the period of their mayoralty 2018-2022.
Cllr Bob Bayford was elected Deputy Chairman of the Town Council.
At the same meeting, the Mayor presented the Mayoress Cup to representatives of St Peter’s Food Bank. Cllr Dexter explained that the cup was presented to an organisation or group who, in the opinion of the Town Council, has made a significant contribution to promoting Broadstairs and St Peter’s and/or the well-being of the local community.

The Town Mayor presented the Millennium Cup to Karen MacKenzie for her work with various volunteer groups across the District including the Town Council as its volunteer tree warden. The cup is awarded annually to a person or persons who, in the opinion of the Town Council, has made a significant contribution to promoting both Broadstairs and St. Peter’s and/or the wellbeing of the local community.
