Culmers Amenity Wilding project-

June 2025 Update

Culmers Meadow update!

You may have seen early this year we started a new wilding project on Culmers amenity land with permission and support from landowners, CT10 charities.
The first stage of this project was a wildflower meadow.
Unfortunately, shortly after this was created it was vandalised. However, we were able to reseed, and members of the public showed interest in maintaining the space too.

Nevertheless, due to many factors out of our control the meadow failed.

Third times a charm!
Yesterday (19th June) this area was reseeded!
The Mayor and Mayoress Cllr Mike Garner and Carole Martin (who have kindly funded this reseed), Contractors Box Green and Town Council Officer Abi had a hands-on day removing all the weeds from the area and reseeded to fully start the process again.

Abi has been working with Culmers Allotments Society who neighbour this area to have use of their water, and their volunteers will also be offering a helping a hand with evening watering – big thank you to Malcolm for making this happen!

We are really excited to see this project thrive, and with help from the fantastic community groups involved, we have no doubt it will this time!

Can we politely ask members of the public to keep off this area for the time being. And DO NOT WATER THIS AREA. We have a strict schedule of watering this time round thanks to our Town Council staff and the helpful Culmers Allotments volunteers. You may have noticed that we have removed all signage stating what this project is, this is to minimise the vandalism in the area. However, if you do have any questions regarding this project please contact Abi on admin@broadstairs.gov.uk

April 2025 Update

As part of this year’s Broadstairs In Bloom Project, work has started on our new wildflower meadow on Culmers Aminity Land.
The Town Council lease this land from CT10 Charities who have expressed their support for this project.

It might not look like much at the moment, but we are hoping to have a healthy wildflower meadow by summer, creating an extra pollinator pocket in this quiet walkthrough! 🐝

Last year we used Osborne Road/ The Vale Meadow as a trial project, and we are glad to see it was a great success!

Stay tuned, this is just the beginning of a rewilding project planned for this area!

For more information, please contact Abigail at admin@broadstairs.gov.uk or call 01843868718.

Not just a meadow!

This project won’t just be a meadow, along side the wildflower meadow we are looking to plant fruit trees/ nut trees and we will also be planting native bulbs in the small woodland/grass area. take a look at our proposal which was approved by our landlords CT10 Charities.
