We are pleased to say that a new water bottle refill tap has been installed at Broadstairs bandstand!
Funded by the Town Council, this project was a collaboration with Thanet District Council. Our own Town Council Officer Abi has been working with TDC’s Beach and Coast Manager, Lisa Collingwood this year to have this water unit installed, signs have also been erected to direct residents to the two water refill taps on Viking Bay and the Bandstand. This project is to encourage visitors to use less plastic water bottles.
Why is this a big deal?
If a standard sized class of children (32) were to use this water bottle refill station every day, over the course of a year it would save 11,680 water bottles that could end up in the sea!
According to data supplied by Visit Thanet, 4.6 million people visited Thanet in 2023- think how many water bottles that could be in our sea!
By working with TDC to install water taps, we are reducing the need to purchase single use plastic, one tap at a time!
Seen in the picture unveiling the new tap: Mayor of Broadstairs & St. Peter’s, Cllr Mike Garner and member of the Town Council’s Environmental committee Cllr Steve Roberts.
