The New Mayor for Broadstairs and St. Peter’s for the Civic year 2010-2011 is Councillor William ‘Bill’ Peppiatt MBE, MA, BSc (Econ). 

Bill was born in St. Pancras, London and has lived in Broadstairs for forty years.  He has a daughter, Celia, a son, Michael and four grandchildren. 

Bill was educated at Highgate School, London, Downing College, Cambridge University and London University.  He gained degrees in Economics, History, Law and Politics and is a prize winner of the Evan Durbin economics essay competition and a past member of the Institute of .Economic Affairs  He completed his National Service in the Royal Artillery.

Bill is a retired teacher and has had a wide and varied career in education and the health service.  For 30 years, he was a teacher and housemaster at Chatham House Grammar School in Ramsgate.  He was also a tutor in social sciences for the Open University and a lecturer in business studies for Cambridge Careers Advisory Service.  He has been Chairman of Canterbury and Thanet Community Health Council from 1995 – 2003 and was awarded the MBE in 2002 for services to health and the community.  He is a past Chairman of Governors at Bromstone Primary School and Upton Junior School.

Bill is a town and district councillor for Viking ward.  He has held many different posts of responsibility at Broadstairs and St. Peter’s Town Council and Thanet District Council.  He is currently the vice chairman of the Finance and General Purposes Committee for Broadstairs and St. Peter’s Town Council, having previously held the post of Chairman for a number of years.  At Thanet District Council, he is a member of the Governance and Audit Committee. 

Bill has a variety of hobbies and interests, including boating, railways, classic cars and transport modelling.
