Allotments

AllotmentThe Culmer’s Allotments land, at the end of Vere Road, was left for the use of the townspeople of Broadstairs by the Culmer family in the 15th century, and is now rented from CT10 Parochial Charities by the Town Council.

The Town Council has been responsible for the management of this land of since the 1990s.   The rental of the plots to allotment holders is heavily subsidised by the Town Council:  it includes water charges, insurances, repairs, administration, newsletters.

In addition, the Town Council maintains the amenity land nearby, paying for grass cutting and tree maintenance etc.

Wheelbarrow of vegetablesAround 100 allotment plots are available for rent and are very popular!  At the moment, all are fully occupied, and we have a long waiting list of prospective tenants.  There is an active Tenants Association [CATA] who raise funds for the Association’s activities.
